Lyrics distilled to three lines of verse
Requested by: Michele
The tale upsets her
so much her husband suspects
she has been untrue.
(Earl)
High partygoer
makes bawdy pass at maiden.
Failure, then success.
(Pat)
Drug-induced visions
and the miller's bawdy talk
cause visible shock.

These haiku submissions were created in complete isolation... I can't believe that we both used "bawdy" when this word doesn't even appear in the lyrics themselves! What are the chances?
Thanks for this contribution to society! I always wondered what the heck the song was about.
Three haiku insights! Thank you! As noted by ap3, your contributions to enlightenment for this song are appreciated because no one can figure it out. We're trying the haikus all on for size as we listen to it. (We never envisioned ourselves as aging boomers going around humming A Whiter Shade of Pale".) Interesting that "bawdy" turned up twice. Think high school English: Miller's tale-- Chaucer-- maybe "bawdy" just had to be there.
